Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio has criticised Brian Ashton, saying he did not have the managerial skills to be head coach at the World Cup.

“I hope I’m not going to lose a friendship over what I say about Brian, a good coach who I believe was in the wrong role,” Dallaglio says in his autobiography serialised in The Sunday Times newspaper and due to be published next month.

Elder Grinham triumphs in historic final

Rachael Grinham, the British Open squash champion, has made sisterly history, overcoming the younger Natalie Grinham, the Commonwealth champion, by 9-4, 10-8, 9-2 to win the World Open title for the first time in Madrid.

Not only was it the first time that the Grinhams had met in a WISPA Tour final, it was almost certainly only the second pair of sisters in any sport ever to have contested a major final, following Venus and Serena Williams in tennis.

Ramos appointed Spurs manager

Spaniard Juande Ramos has been named manager of English Premier League Tottenham Hotspur in place of the sacked Martin Jol.

The 53-year-old, who quit as Sevilla head coach on Friday, has signed a contract until the end of the 2010-11 season, Spurs said on their web site.

“Juande’s arrival is great news for Tottenham Hotspur. He brings with him a wealth of experience, a proven track record and a winning pedigree,” sporting director Damien Comolli said.
