Panthers QB Delhomme to miss rest of season
Jake Delhomme of the Carolina Panthers will undergo surgery on his right elbow, ending his NFL season.
The veteran quarterback suffered a sprain of the elbow in Carolina’s win over Atlanta on Sept. 23 but opted to see if it would improve with rest.
Jake Delhomme has been a mainstay under centre for Carolina the past five seasons.

Coach John Fox said Monday that Delhomme had trouble throwing the ball earlier in the day. Delhomme then made the decision to have surgery next week.
“Anytime you lose your starting quarterback, it’s a blow,” Fox said. “Jake was playing very well. I think that’s pretty well documented. He’s not only our starting quarterback, but what he brings to our football team will be missed.”
David Carr, acquired in the off-season after five seasons as Houston’s starter, has played the last two games for the Panthers but hurt his back in Sunday’s win over New Orleans. Matt Moore has been Carr’s backup.
Delhomme, 32, was off to a good start this season. In his fifth season with the club, he had thrown for eight touchdowns and just one interception.
For his career, Delhomme has thrown for 14,591 yards and 100 touchdowns, with 64 interceptions.
Undrafted out of college, Delhomme helped lead the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2004.
