Avalanche’s Paul Stastny honoured by NHL
Colorado Avalanche centre Paul Stastny was named the NHL’s first star of the week Monday.
Stastny, 21, led all scorers last week with four goals and four assists in three games last week, highlighted by his hat trick in a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars and a five-point night (one goal, four assists) in a 6-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Stastny, a native of Quebec City, was runner-up to Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin for the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year last season.
New York Islanders centre Mike Comrie was the second star behind Stastny, after recording four goals and two assists.
Comrie signed with New York as a free agent on July 5 after finishing last season with the Stanley Cup finalist Ottawa Senators.
Nashville Predators goaltender Chris Mason was the third star. Mason earned two victories, including a shutout, and posted an 0.50 goals-against average and a .984 save percentage last week.
Mason made 35 saves in earning his ninth career shutout as the Predators defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-0. Two nights later, he made 28 saves as Nashville defeated the Dallas Stars 5-1.
