Euro 2008 Group C preview

Following their impressive away win against the current European champions, Turkey will want to consolidate their leadership in Group C as they host Norway on Wednesday evening.

Turkey 12
Greece 9
Bosnia 7
Norway 6
Malta 4
Hungary 3
Moldova 2

Turkey - Norway

The home team have been renowned for their strength in recent years, but few would have believed that they were capable of going to Greece and beat the hosts 4-1. Definitely one of the most important wins this side has ever achieved as it allowed the Turkish side to move 3 points clear at the top of Group C, a result which paves the way for the qualification to Euro 2008.

On the other hand, Norway are not the same force they used to be a few years back and their 1-2 home defeat suffered on Saturday against Bosnia proves this. For the visitors, winning is probably their only hope of remaining in with a chance of going through, otherwise a defeat or even a draw would kill all their hopes of reaching the European Championship finals.

Malta - Greece

The European champions need to bounce back following the debacle suffered on Saturday against Turkey. However, the match against Malta might have arrived in the worst possible moment, as the Maltese team has done quite well in recent games and the local side will surely be flying high following the win against Hungary and the away draw at Moldova.

For Greece, a win is vital here to keep the teams behind at bay, but more importantly keep in touch with Turkey who are now 3 points ahead, hoping they will eventually slip up in the next matches. Ultimately, Greece are miles ahead of Malta in terms of quality, but this might prove to be a banana skin match for Otto Rehagel's men.

Hungary - Moldova

The match between the two bottom side nations. A defeat for Moldova would surely sink the team to its lowest point ever, whilst a win might be a good way to start afresh following the disappointing results in recent matches.

Hungary have not done much better, including a surprising defeat against Malta, but with the opportunity of playing at home, the Hungarians surely start as favourites to take with them the three points. A match neither side will want to lose.
