Sean Avery out up to 4 weeks with shoulder injury
Ottawa Senator Chris Neil knocked Sean Avery out of the game on Saturday and out of the New York Rangers lineup for several games to come.
The Rangers announced late Sunday that Avery had suffered a left shoulder sprain and would miss up to a month of action.
Neil checked Avery hard in the first period of Ottawa’s 2-0 home shutout win on Saturday.
Avery, known as an effective agitator to opposing clubs, signed a $1.9-million US contract after he and the Rangers entered salary arbitration in the off-season.
The 27-year-old helped provide a late season spark for New York after being picked up in a trade from Los Angeles on Feb. 5.
Avery collected 20 points (eight goals and 12 assists) in 29 games with New York and the Rangers posted a 17-6-6 record during the regular season with him in the lineup.
