Custom 1993 Isuzu Pup - All In The Family

There is a special bond between a father and a son. Maybe it’s because the son will carry on the family name or because a father has someone who they can share hobbies with. Whatever the reason, that bond is there. Sharing your hobbies is a great way to connect and strengthen a father/son relationship, whether it is baseball, fishing, golf, or going to a truck show. Participating in a hobby that both of you love gives you common ground and a reason to spend time together.

Custom 1999 Ford Ranger - The Retro Ranger

When Andy Gibson decided to build a vehicle of his own, he wanted to build something that he was used to building, a street rod. He looked for one that wouldn’t require a butt-load of cash to buy and one that wouldn’t require thousands of dollars to make road-worthy. Andy needed a daily driver that would get him from point A to point B, reliably. When push came to shove, he went for something that was more reliable. Even though he wasn’t able to buy a rod like he wanted, he wasn’t going stray from the style that he loves. He’s built several custom street rods alongside his dad, but this would be his first venture into customizing a late-model with a Blue Oval badge. Although the journey of getting to where he’s at today with his Ranger has been a learning process, he never strayed from his custom roots and turned this late-model Ranger into something showgoers can’t help but stare at.

Custom 1968 Ford F-100 - Home Built

People get into the custom truck hobby for different reasons, and some just come by it, naturally. B.J. Caudill from Prestonsburg, Kentucky, is one of the few born with a passion for custom trucks flowing through his blood stream. B.J.’s dad was a drag racer, and he attended his first National IHRA event at the tender age of 3 months old. B.J. also worked on his dad’s race team while growing up and learned valuable lessons on building the best with what you have available.

Custom 2007 Chevrolet Silverado - Groundbreaker

Justin Higley has been around the truck scene long enough to know quality work when he sees it. Ever since he could get behind the wheel, he has been customizing his trucks. He started off with a ‘99 Silverado that he lifted with an entry-level bolt-on kit, and then he tried going the opposite direction with a slammed GMC on hydraulics. That didn’t work out too well, because Justin liked being able to hop in a custom truck without having to adjust the suspension for road clearance.

Custom 2003 Chevrolet S-10 - One Bad Crew

Michael “Guppy” Engberg bought this truck two years ago from Direct Autosports in Orange County, California. The truck was basically done and was used to feature new wheels for Jesse James at the SEMA Show. It was already ‘bagged, stretched for the 6-footlong bed, and coated in suede paint. The truck looked good-good enough to please Michael’s son, Arick, aka Li’l Gup. Even at a young age,Li’l Gup had an eye for cool, and after seeing the excitement in his kid’s eyes, Big Guppy knew what he had to do-buy it. Michael owned the truck for about a year, and in that time, he enjoyed driving his son to shows and hanging out. One night on a back country road, something horrible happened. A 45-pound raccoon wandered its fat butt out on the road, causing Michael to swerve right into a guard rail. The guard rail kept Michael on the road but tore through the sheetmetal like a can opener. This accident was the inspiration to rebuild, this time with some personal style.

Custom 2001 Ford F-250 - Purpose-Built

When Armando “Manny” Torres bought his ‘01 Ford Super Duty, the plan was to just haul his boats from the lake and back. Then, just like every other vehicle Manny has ever bought, it snowballed into the truck you see here. Manny, definitely not new to the customization scene, was known pretty well in Florida for having built numerous show-winning cars. From Mustangs to Camaros,Manny has built it all.

Custom 2000 Toyota Tacoma - Drag Marks

Most mini-trucker stories start out the same: “I am just going to ‘bag it, so I can drag and roll with the cool kids.” For Jonathan Knight, this was his exact intention, until he got the bug to start hitting up some shows around his hometown of Chandler, Indiana. Jon’s Taco started its whirlwind buildup as a bone-stock ‘00 Toyota Tacoma, purchased from a local dealership. Jon drove it directly home to perform a simple ‘bag job on it. After riding around for a while, Jon received his first sponsorship money, in the form of someone rear-ending him at a stoplight and crumpling the bed. Not one to let something as simple as this get him down, Jon decided to turn lemons into lemonade by converting the Taco into the full custom show truck you see here.
